Basic
Computers 1 & 2
No previous computer knowledge is required.
The
first class will explain how to turn a computer on and off, explain the basic functions of the mouse, illustrate the foundation
of the Windows program, and get students comfortable with exploring on a computer. The second class includes
a review and progresses to understanding the functions of the keys on the keyboard (not typing). Students
will learn how to input information into the computer, correct typing errors, insert and delete text, and more.
File Management (Basic Computers 3 & 4 Saving & Retrieving
Information)
Prerequisite: Basic Computers
Part 1 & 2 or equivalent knowledge.
File Management applies and reviews the skills learned
in parts 1 & 2. The primary purpose of the class is to learn how to save information effectively, find
it, and then organize that information on your computer or a flash drive. You will also learn how to install
new programs (software) and customize your computer to fit your specific needs using the control panel. Students
who bring a laptop computer can get started on their own machine. Computers are provided if needed.
The
Internet 1 & 2
Prerequisite: Basic Computers
or equivalent knowledge.
The first class will explain the
basics of search engines and browsers. You will learn how to connect to the Internet and how to navigate
your way around the World Wide Web. Students will be able to find any information on the Internet after
session 1. The second class will provide time for review and discuss browsers in more detail, show you
how to download programs, search more effectively, store favorites, and avoid viruses.
E-mail 1 & 2
Prerequisite: Basic Computers and Searching the Internet
This class
will provide hands on experience while you learn the basics of e-mail. Find out how e-mail works and learn
to read, write, send, forward, and reply to messages. The second class will provide time for review, explore
setting up your address book, sending to multiple recipients, sending attachments, and more. This class will be taught using
Outlook Express.
Digital Cameras 1
& 2
Prerequisite: Basic Computers
or equivalent knowledge.
This
basic digital camera class will teach you what you need to know before you buy a camera as well as how to use it after you
purchase one. Students will learn how to take pictures, transfer pictures to a computer, edit photographs,
print and email photos to friends and more! Students will learn to download the free Picasa photo editing
program to use and edit pictures. (Digital cameras provided if needed, but please feel free to bring your
own if you have one. Also, bring the cable for attaching to a computer.)
eBay 1 & 2
Prerequisite:
Basic Computers or equivalent knowledge. Internet experience helpful.

is the internet’s location for an international garage sale. Learn how the site works both for the buyer and the seller.
Learn how to safely bid and buy as well as set up your account to sell those items that have been gathering dust, but someone
else wants right now!
Facebook 101
Prerequisite: Basic Computers
or equivalent knowledge. Internet experience helpful.
Facebook helps you connect and share
with the people in your life. Add pictures, games, a network of people to your internet experience. Read what the people you care about
are sharing with the world and add your comments for everyone, too.
Hands-on Microsoft Office Classes
Microsoft Word 1 & 2
Prerequisite:
Basic Computers or equivalent knowledge.
Now with an introduction to Word 2007! Learn the basics of Microsoft Word. You will
learn how to create new documents, edit your work, change font sizes, shapes, alignment, and more. Students
will also learn to save and retrieve documents effectively. These classes will provide you with time for
review and practice.
Word will
allow you to create letters, record important information, and write stories with greater ease than ever before.
Microsoft
Word 3 & 4
Prerequisite: Microsoft Word
Parts 1 & 2 or equivalent knowledge.
Students may use either Word 2003 or Word 2007.
These classes will provide hands on experience while you review the basics of Microsoft Word. You will
learn how to create documents, signs, and letters that people will swear were done by a professional. Students
will have fun inserting pictures, borders, and so much more. This class will also cover creating bulleted
and numbered lists and customizing your work to fit your specific needs.
Microsoft Excel (Making Financials Easier) 1 & 2
Prerequisite:
Basic Computers or equivalent knowledge.
Now with an introduction to
Excel 2007! Whether it’s balancing your check book, putting together the family budget or generating
charts for work, Microsoft Excel is the program for you. Improve the way you turn your data into information
using powerful tools to analyze, communicate and share your results. Microsoft Excel is a spreadsheet program
that will enable students to track & manage data, addresses, financials, and more. Students will learn
how to use Excel to create simple spread sheets, perform detailed calculations, and sort data.
Microsoft Excel (Making
Financials Easier) 3 & 4
Prerequisite: Microsoft Excel 1 & 2 or equivalent knowledge
Students may use either Excel 2003 or Excel 2007. A continuation of Microsoft Excel 1 & 2: a spreadsheet
program that will enable students to track & manage data, addresses, financials, and more. Students
will learn more advanced page setup and printing, using spreadsheets as the basis for mail merge as well as many shortcuts
and best practices.
Mail Merge 1 & 2
Prerequisite: Microsoft
Word 1 & 2 and Microsoft Excel 1 & 2 or equivalent knowledge.
Students
may use either Office 2003 or Office 2007. The perfect mailing list requires a minimum of upkeep and a maximum of uses. Learn
how to use Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to create and update a mailing list, then use Microsoft Word to create, edit, and
print letters and envelopes for the entire list.
Microsoft PowerPoint (Professional Presentations) 1 & 2
Prerequisite:
Basic Computers or equivalent knowledge.
Now with an introduction to
PowerPoint 2007! Microsoft PowerPoint enables you to create exciting slide show presentations that can be used in business
or for personal use. Just think of the slideshow possibilities at business meetings, family reunions, weddings
or in school. MS PowerPoint will help you wow any audience. Students will learn to create
their very own slide show complete with text, graphics, pictures, and animation.
Microsoft Publisher (Professional Publications) 1 & 2
Prerequisite: Basic Computers
or equivalent knowledge.
Now with an introduction to Publisher 2007! Microsoft
Publisher enables you to create professional-looking marketing materials without the assistance of a professional. Adding
and editing photos and clip art as well as arranging text on the page, properly aligning the text, and creating word art are
all skills that can make your next publication sparkle.

Google Mania
Take your Internet use to the next level by attending
this intriguing lecture on the secret features of Google. Attendees will learn how to utilize Google’s
hidden tools to find pictures and videos, search patents and trademarks, and search through scholarly papers for research.
Google tools will be used to translate any text from one language to another, download an abundance of free software,
and even navigate the globe from satellite images!
Google Earth
Google Earth is a satellite image-based mapping
product, which represents the whole world on a computer. It enables users to "fly" from space to street level to
find geographic information and explore places around the world. Google Earth is more like a video game than a search engine
– it's basically a 3D model of the entire planet that lets you grab, spin and zoom down into any place on Earth.
CD Burning & Flash Drives
Burning CD’s used to be the standard way to back up and store information or pictures.
Now the flash drive has become the favorite device to quickly save, copy, and backup information to an easy to use, portable
memory. In this lecture, learn the easiest ways to save data & pictures on a flash drive as well as the correct way to
install and remove the drive from your computer. Students may bring a flash drive and/or computer or use
ones provided.
